Underworld Ecologies: A Special Viewing with Adrian Glover and Daniel Jones

Over the course of two years, a UK Government research ship has been documenting abyssal biodiversity in the eastern Pacific Ocean. Using a remotely operated submersible diving at depths of 4000-5000m the team have imaged and sampled remarkable new animal life in areas never before explored.

Underworld Ecologies is a unique collaboration between the LSE and Scientists from the Natural History Museum and National Oceanography Centre UK that showcases specimens, imagery and film from the two 'SMARTEX' expeditions which took place in 2023 and 2024 aboard the RRS James Cook, a state-of-the-art oceanographic research vessel alongside art and AV installations that contextualise the scientific exploration of biodiversity.

More information on the exhibition and curators is available here

At this special evening event, expedition leaders Adrian Glover and Daniel Jones will introduce the project and show highlights from the expeditions.

Refreshments will be served.

This event is brought to you thanks to a collaboration between the London School of Economics, the Natural History Museum and the National Oceanography Centre.

The SMARTEX project is funded by the UK Government through the Natural Environment Research Council.
